Festival in the Shire - A celebration of all things Tolkien inspired!

As you all already know, hobbits are always up for a jolly good time when they can. Parties, festivals and other merry events are often on the calendar in the Shire, and here is one that you cannot miss as I am giving you plenty of warning and time to get organised. FESTIVAL IN THE SHIRE - A celebration of all things Tolkien inspired! The festival will take place from August 13th to 15th, 2010 at Y Plas, Machynlleth, Wales, United Kingdom.

Announcing the biggest and most exciting event for Tolkien enthusiasts in 2010: Festival in the Shire! This will be the most comprehensive event ever held for the fans of J.R.R. Tolkien, with a conference, a collector’s exposition of original art, rare books and memorabilia as well as a large festival with stalls and entertainment.

An academic conference entitled : ‘Welsh influences on the works of J.R.R. Tolkien’ will be held in conjunction with Festival in the Shire. The conference will consist of keynote speeches, papers on the latest research and breakout sessions with discussion group. The collector's exposition will be a unique opportunity to see some of the worlds rarest and most famous items associated with JRR Tolkien and inspired by his work. There will be rare first editions of Tolkien’s books and other Tolkien memorabilia. Many of these pieces are from private collections. The Festival in the Shire’s main event is the festival itself! This is a large gathering of hobbits, elves, dwarfs, the occasional wizard and men with a wide variety of stalls and entertainment. Entertainment will include Tolkien inspired re-enactments and role-play,cosplay music and other performance art together with Celtic music and many other jolly hobbitish related events.
