Tolkien the Codebreaker

It is not a great surprise that J.R.R. Tolkien was approached by British Intelligence chiefs just before the Second World War, his skills as an expert linguistic were considered very valuable. Its been revealed this week, by previously unseen records, that Professor Tolkien trained with the top-secret Government Code and Cypher School and that he spent three days at their London HQ in March 1939 , just six months before the outbreak of the Second World War and just 18 months after the publication of his first book, The Hobbit. Tolkien however, declined a permanent offer to work for the Government for unknown reasons and went on to write The Lord of the Rings, one of the greatest work of literature on the 20Th Century.
