Bronwe Athan Harthad at The Council of Elrond

The One Ring is awake! It is trying to get back to his master, standing in its way one halfling, and his companions that are meeting today in Ilmadriss, in the House of Elrond, in the place men call Rivendell. During the Council of Elrond, the story of the One Ring is told by Gandalf, Elrond and Bilbo Baggins. The man Boromir, son of the Steward of Gondor, try to persuade the Council to use the One Ring to defend Gondor and use its powers to destroy Sauron, Elrond and Gandalf strongly disagree as they know the dark powers on the One Ring will ultimately destroy any potential Ringbaerer. To demonstrate the destruction the One Ring carries inside, Gandalf will eventually use the Black Speech and recite the Ring-Inscription, which will anger Elrond.

"One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them."

"-Never before has any voice dared to utter the words of that tongue in Ilmadris, Gandalf the Grey,- said Elrond, as the shadow passed the company breathed once more."

It has to be said that the cinematic version of Peter Jackson Council of Elrond did leave me somehow frustrated as many of the book passages where changed or totally omitted for the sake of expediency. The Council of Elrond is probably the most revealing and important chapter in the whole Trilogy, Bilbo has a big role in the Council which was not replicated in the movie.

"-Very well, very well, Master Elrond!- said Bilbo suddenly. - Say no more! It is plain enough what you are pointing at. Bilbo has started this affair, and Bilbo had better finish it, on himself.-"

Bilbo's offering is noble but not realistic as the One Ring has not passed to an other Ringbearer, Gandalf reminds to Bilbo that as the Ring has left him, it is for the best and that he should concentrate on his writings instead. The council is at a stand-still, no one is talking, no one seem what to do, the noon-bell rings, it is getting late, the hobbits are probably getting hungry. In his corner Frodo sits lost in his thoughts, he looks at the others, one by one, when suddenly he feels his heart filled with fear, he knows already there is something he needs to do, although he had hoped never to hear his voice say such things. He feels so tired, he only wants to rest and sit next to his dear uncle Bilbo in Rivendell, read books, write stories, and then it happen, he hear his voice....

"-I will take the Ring,- he said -though I do not know the way.-"
"-A nice pickle we have landed ourselves in, Mr.Frodo!-"
(J.R.R.Tolkien- The Council of Elrond)

The fate of the One Ring is sealed! Frodo is the Ringbearer, he is the one that will take the One Ring of Power into Mount Doom, the future of Middle-earth on the tiny shoulders of a hobbit from the Shire....Bronwe Athan Harthad, is the name Gandalf give to Frodo , "Endurance beyond Hope"!

Alternative version of The Council of Elrond (ideal for those that are in a hurry :))
