3 January 1892 - Bloemfontein (South Africa) Arthur and Mabel Tolkien welcome to the world their first son, John Ronald Reuel Tolkien in the lodgings above the bank in Maitland Street where Arthur works as a manager. In the treeless, dusty and dry plains on Africa, a tiny 'hobbit' is born on the third day of 1892. It is very true that often extraordinary individuals are born from extraordinary parents. Mabel Suffield-Tolkien is an incredibly good and loving mother and her influence is one of the major driving forces behind the development of the young child that was to become one of the most influential authors in the history of literature. A humble little hobbit, born in a far away land is 118 today (which in hobbit terms is really not that old)
HAPPY BIRTHDAY Professor Tolkien and Thank You!
