The Hobbit Set For 2013 Release....Really?

You may not be aware of the importance of the date (April 28 ) but I am, so it is not coming as a huge surprise that the official release dates for The Hobbit have been announced a few hours ago. April 28 is in fact the day Gandalf and Thorin visit Bilbo at Bag End and the adventures of The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien begins.IMAX and Warner Bros. sign up to 20 picture deal from 2010 through 2013 and The Hobbit is clearly mentioned in the IMAX Corporation press release posted by GLOBE NEWSWIRE. It does look very likely that The Hobbit will be released in 2013.

Under the agreement, Warner Bros. movies that will be released in IMAX are: Legends of the Guardian: The Owls of Ga'Hoole 3D (September 24, 2010); Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 (3D) (November 19, 2010); Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II (3D) (July 15, 2011); Happy Feet 2 (3D) (November 18, 2011); and The Hobbit (December 2013). Warner Bros. and IMAX also plan to release an additional 15 films over the course of 2011, 2012 and 2013, including Gravity, Dark Shadows, Fury Road, Batman 3, and Superman. (IMAX Corporation press release)

A 2013 release will be a full 2 years later then rumored (although no official announcement was ever made in this respect). Fans were hoping for a 2011 release and many are still expecting to see The Hobbit in December 2012 but considering the ongoing MGM studios situation it seem more and more likely that we will have to wait until 2013 to go back to Middle-Earth. Please note that only ONE The Hobbit movie is mentioned in the press release although it was widely reported The Hobbit would be split into 2 movies and no 3D apparently , so this is kind of confusing. A 2013 release is certainly a long way away...ooh well...I think I have a lot ' hobbitish blogging' to do between now an then :) .Must be said however that several sources are now claiming the 2013 date is wrong and that The Hobbit will release in 2012.Warners moved quickly to set the calendar straight in the wake of the Imax release and now The Hobbit is penciled for a December 2012 release however the IMAX Corporation site still state December 2013 as the date for The Hobbit release..
