Guillermo del Toro :' Very Ready' But No Green Light For The Hobbit (Yet)

Following the wild and untrue rumours that were circulating yesterday on the Internet, and speaking during a press conference for his latest production 'Splice', Guillermo del Toro has made clear last night that The Hobbit has not received any green light for production to start. MGM still owns a good chunk of The Hobbit's rights but the financial situation with the studios still hangs in a balance and until it is resolved no green light can be given for The Hobbit movie.

"It's not greenlit! That's categorical... We've been caught in a very tangled negotiation... There cannot be any start dates until the MGM situation gets resolved. They do hold a considerable portion of the rights." del Toro explained.

Del Toro also made very clear that filming The Hobbit in 3D has been discussed (once) but that the movie will most likely be in 2D as originally planned. Everything that could be done in pre-production has now been done , everything is 'very ready' for a good start when (and only when) the green light is given. So there you have it hobbits....it cannot get more 'Official' then that :)
